3 Things To Do Before a Vacation With Pet

A vacation is a time to relax and forget about the responsibilities and obligations of home. To make the most of your time away, it is wise to make plans for anything that needs to be taken care of in your absence. Here are three things to do before going on vacation.

  1. Set Up an Electronic Timer

If you are worried about someone breaking into your home when you are gone for an extended period of time, consider getting a timer to connect to some lights or the television. This will enable these devices to come on automatically for a few hours each night and give the illusion that the house is still occupied, a deterrent to most burglars.

  1. Make Plans To Board Pets

Unless you have a dog who loves car rides and you will be staying in a pet-friendly hotel, it is necessary to seek dog or cat boarding accommodation for the safety and comfort of your furry family members while you are away. Make reservations early, especially if you are traveling during holidays and other peak vacation times. Let the employees know of any medications that your pet takes as well as any other special medical or behavioral needs.

  1. Request a Mail Hold

If you are expecting something important in the mail or simply want to put your mind at ease regarding mail theft, you can call a local United States Postal Service office and request that they hold your mail at their office until you return. The USPS is able to hold mail for up to 30 days, making this a good option even for longer absences. If you have a willing and trusted neighbor, they may also be able to collect and hold your mail while you’re gone.

Consider these three things, as applicable to you, when planning a vacation.
